LINDI ORTEGA ~ “FROM THE ETHER”

After a multi-year hiatus, acclaimed roots noir artist and DittyTV Concert Series Alum @lindi_ortega is back with “FROM THE ETHER” , a haunting album crafted for kindred dark souls. Released through Truly Handmade Records, the album marks the label’s first release and is out NOW!

“FROM THE ETHER” is a holiday album for my favourite season,” Ortega says. “Each song journeys with ghosts, real and metaphorical, drawing listeners into a world beyond the mundane. ”

The album got its start when producer Mike Meadows and Ortega took a walk through the Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Texas to pay homage to John Lomax and his son, Alan Lomax, legendary Texas folklorists and godfathers of American field recordings, whose recordings of early American music “went on to be the genesis for so much of what we hear today – blues, R&B and pop.

“We went to pay our respects to the Lomaxes and took different lines from epitaphs from the 1800s, and “The Epitaph” resulted from those lines. ” Ortega goes on to ground the whole record in this walk, “I feel the record is imbued with spirits because of this journey, which traces its way through the record, spirits who were invited to join you from the very first song…”

Lindi’s haunting lyrics and stunning voice don’t fail to deliver, inviting long-awaiting listeners on an unforeseen journey that is as layered as it is evocative. Coming out of the quiet of a hiatus, Ortega’s compelling songwriting is a long overdue offering this season and hopefully beyond.
